This pavilion for living and working is part of a new communal center in an abandoned open-air public swimming pool in the countryside. The existing buildings are used for communal activities and a series of new pavilions are available for groups and individuals to live and work in.
Our pavilion design has an outer shell of translucent panels, shiny corrugated aluminum sheets, and wooden annex structures. The pavilion is accessed by a short bridge, leading into a large upper hall overlooking the park. The façade creates a gentle, bright atmosphere, while the idiosyncratic concrete structure aims to bring some of the qualities of a warehouse—a typical use of precast concrete—into the space.
Wooden alcoves with functions like kitchen, bathroom, and storage extend outwards from the façade, bringing a space station to mind. One alcove leads from the more intimate living space on the ground floor to the upper working space. Besides a series of sleeping niches, a generous communal area overlooking the park provides space for gatherings. This project is part of an ensemble of buildings drafted by ten different architecture studios, each invited by Peter Haimerl to design one building.
